Appointment to Alderman is by public solicitition
and fair opportunity to general public. Any member of the public may apply provided the following conditions are met;
- Up to Primary School Education with 20 years proven community service and organizing (e.g., organizing farmers, fishermen, women, community and cultural activities) and basic understanding of how government functions
- Up to High School Education with 16 years (and at least 32 years old) proven community service and organizing (as mentioned previous) and basic understanding of how government functions
- Up to University Level Education with 10 years* (and at least 32 years old) proven community service and organizing (as mentioned previous) and fair understanding of how government functions (8 years for MS and 5 years for PhD)
- Must not have been former MP or political appointee of previous governments (except with approved certain exceptions from executive committee)
- Must have untarnished police record (foreign or domestic) and high standard of ethics and integrity (both foreign and domestic and verifiable)
- Must not have been implicated in any form of public or community level corruption (letter of recommendation required from Community Council or Religious Council
- Willing to undergo a background investigation
